Occupy Wall St. protesters arrested outside UN
Description
ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)
Police arrested four Occupy Wall Street protesters on Saturday (March 24) for trespassing outside the United Nations headquarters in New York City.
Demonstrators dressed in suits acted as "corporate polluters", attempting to show how they believe corporations like Bank of America and ExxonMobil influence environmental policy in a negative way.
Organizer William Jesse said they wanted to combine the concerns of climate change with the movement's mission to fight economic injustice.
New York resident Chris Dillon said he's used to seeing arrests at demonstrations.
"Whenever I come to these events. I count how many police there are and I count how many protesters there are. I guessed about 30 protesters, and you can't see them now, I count about 50 police," Dillon said. "What's, what's that about?"
New York public high school science teacher Frank Rimler says the protesters should not have been arrested, and accepts it as part of the movement if it helps advocate better policies and practices for the environment.
"I still think that what they're up to is that they're on the right track. Some of the things they may not fully agree with, but I think I agree a lot more with them than with the other side, and so I'm going to take a stand on this," said Rimler.
Ten other protesters were arrested in a separation demonstration involving an hours-long march through Manhattan on Saturday.
Occupy Wall Street has heated up in New York with protesters convening in Union Square park, as the movement's new headquarters.
