U.S.President Barack Obama has diagnosed his Republican oponent with a new aliment.

At an event in Virginia, Obama criticised Republican opponent Mitt Romney's backtracking.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA SAYING:

"But now that we're 18 days out from the election, mister severely conservative wants you to think he was kidding about everything he said over the last year. He told folks that he was the ideal candidate for the tea party, now he's suddenly saying 'who me?' He's forgetting what his own positions are and he's betting that you will to. I mean he's changing so much, backtracking and sidestepping, we've got to name this condition he's going through, I think it's called Romnesia (crowd cheers) that's what it's called."

And from Romney- an accusation of game playing from a campaign stop in Florida.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE MITT ROMNEY SAYING:

"Have you been watching the Obama campaign lately? It's absolutely remarkable they have no agenda for the future, no agenda for America, no agenda for a second term. Its a good thing they wont have a second term. They have been reduced to petty attacks, and silly word games. Just watch it. The Obama campaign has become the incredible shrinking campaign."

The latest Reuters/ Ipsos polls show Obama ahead by 6%.

Both candidates face off again during the final debate on Monday in Florida.
