Obama, Gillard hold newser
Description
U.S. President Barack Obama arrived in Australia Wednesday as part of a tour of the Asia-Pacific region.
The visit down under began with an official welcome ceremony and inspection of the Australian military guard.
Obama then greeted Australian school children inside the Parliament House... and he didn't hold back with the handshakes and hugs.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard joined Obama as he signed a welcome book-- and was cheered on Parliament staffers watching from the balcony.
Later, the two held a joint news conference and discussed a range of topics, including recent allegations from Obama himself that China needs to take more responsibility in its role as an up and coming world leader.

"It's important for them to play by the rules of the road, and in fact, help underwrite the rules that have allowed so much remarkable economic progress to be made over the last several decades. "
Later in the evening, Obama will attend a state dinner. Thursday he plans to travel to the northern Australian city of Darwin.
