Obama bactracks on Venezuela

U.S. President Barack Obama has admitted that Venezuela does not pose a threat to U.S. national security. His admission explicitly contradicts the language of last month's executive order that classified Venezuela as an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States. However Obama told the EFE news agency that he is concerned about the erosion of human rights in Venezuela and the intimidation of political opponents. He said that the United States is not a threat to Venezuela either and is open to dialogue and compromise. He did not, however, mention revoking the order although 12 million people have signed a petition roundly condemning it. teleSUR
