Not Long Left - October Tears

In the time it takes for every leaf
to fall from your now naked arms
I would have buried her four times
over. when there is nothing but
despair the tender happenings
which pass us by, suddenly slow.
Each falling leaf, each gust of
wind become the everything of life.

Today I returned to you
removed the curled leaves from
your bed and gave myself to the world
and as I sat beside
you as a chrous of birds sang
from above, each branch swaying
in such a sorry way.
everything leaned upon us,
everything heavy with grief.

And as I rose a crowd of
falling leaves fell upon you
It was time to stop the burying
time to stop the scattering
For I knew you would feel my tears
warming you even when I was
three hundred miles away.
