Norman Santos - Receding

I can feel the futility stretching,
closing over me like skin;
myself receding with the days
my skin is gray, my eyes are blind

And I can see the past like a town
reducing into a blotch of light
as I am assailed into the darkness
of no assurance and hope

I can feel my soul retract
now, everything is so wind up
I don't know where it hurts anymore
but I simper for the allure of death

Death smelled like you, I smiled harder
because you're beautiful
I can feel you closer and closer
plunging like a dagger into my aching soul
