The oar dips and pushes
Chafing off the snug spur
Its action makes dancing dervish whirls
The boat is licked and glides
The practiced stroke holds body, vessel
In silence unified
The watchful gulls, the resting seal
The shag beneath the keel
Are pieces of specific space and time
In ever moving mind
Only as real as each other
Only as valid as each other
Our separateness the hidden lie
Our pervasive interconnection
Earth, sky and sea
I am my rowing
And my boat is just a part of me
