The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Amy Adams, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Michael Shannon, Isla Fisher, Armie Hammer and Laura Linney. Principal photography began on October 5, 2015 in Los Angeles, California. It was selected to compete for the Golden Lion at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize. The film is scheduled to be released on November 18, 2016, by Focus Features.
