Niagara Falls transforms into icy spectacle amid severe cold

Extreme cold has blanketed Niagara Falls in heavy snow and ice. Footage from Jan. 28, 2025 captured on the New York side, shows thick ice and snow surrounding the iconic landmark. According to Niagara Parks, the falls never fully freeze, even in extreme cold. As temperatures drop, mist and spray form a thick crust of ice over the rushing water, creating the illusion of a frozen waterfall, but the water continues to flow beneath the ice.
