Next Breaks Down "Too Close"
Description
American R&B group Next first broke through when their debut single “Butta Love” peaked at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1997. The follow-up, “Too Close,” took the trio to even greater heights, reaching No. 1 on both the Hot 100 and the R&B charts. Produced by Kay Gee, the Rated Next track would go on to top the 1998 year-end Hot 100 chart, and earn a double-Platinum certification. As Next member Raphael “Tweet” Brown points out, it’s one of the biggest hits of all time as well, sitting at No. 16 on the decade-end Hot 100 chart for 1990-1999 and No. 28 of all-time.
