ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has finalized a list of 104 million voters for the upcoming general elections after carrying out delimitation of constituencies and will make the list public on March 26.
According to reports, the ECP has decided to set up 14,487 display centers across the country allowing voters to check their names and other details, figuring out any objections and make the necessary corrections prior the day of the event.
The commission has organised a number of 7,928 display and information centers in Punjab, 2,585 in Sindh 2,545 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including FATA and 1,429 in Baluchistan.
As many as 8.1 million new voters are added to the list. According to the data, there is 21% increase in numbers from the last general election’s voter list. The country’s population stands at 207.7 million.
The ECP has removed a number of 800,000 listed voters from the last used list in the 2013 general elections.The removed names are of those who in the last five years passed away, acquired foreign nationalities or whose National Identity Cards (NIC) have been blocked by Nadra for various reasons. These changes have been made as per officially recorded data provided by the National Database and Registration Authority.
