LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday disqualified Masroor Nawaz Jhangvi as a member of Punjab Assembly, ARY News reported.

This verdict came on a petition calling for disqualification of Jhangvi, elected on the provincial assembly seat in Jhang (PP-78), over alleged involvement in a number of cases.

Jhangvi had won the PP-78 by-election in 2016.

Petitioner Muzaffar Abbas contended that six cases were registered against the lawmaker, son of assassinated Haq Nawaz Jhangvi, founder of the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba.

It merits mention here that an outlawed terrorist outfit, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, was named after Masroor’s father.

Jhangvi also figured on a list of people suspected of militant ties under the Fourth Schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997.
