One of the lesser-known Subaru products is the Levorg, which is actually the wagon version of the Impreza. It's been around since 2014 and is largely confined to the Japanese market. The first-generation model is sold in select European markets, while the current car, launching in 2020, can be purchased as the WRX GT Wagon in New Zealand and the WRX Sportwagon in Australia. This new Levorg Layback is a JDM-only event, at least for now.

Ahead of the car's official reveal in Land of the Rising Sun today, Subaru said it will be an SUV version of the wagon. However, this new Layback derivative is basically the same wagon with upgraded suspension and plastic body trim. Details are scarce at the moment, but we do know that the raised stance increases ground clearance to 7.9 inches (200 millimeters), while the standard Levorg offers just 5.1 inches (130 mm).

The 2024 Levorg Layback brings us the next generation EyeSight system equipped with a wide-angle camera as standard equipment. Customers also get the Harman Kardon audio setup, 11.6-inch display, as well as the ability to remotely control the AC to precondition the vehicle interior via a smartphone app. The adventurous wagon on stilts rides on 18-inch wheels with all-season tires.

Subaru also sells the Levorg in Japan as an STI Sport model with a more aggressive body kit and some mechanical upgrades, but it's not a full-fledged STI product. At the beginning of the year, it launched an STI Sport Performance special edition, limited to 500 units and equipped with 19-inch BBS forged wheels, transmission oil cooler, strut tower support and flexible towing reinforcement. The spicy wagon is also equipped with 225/40 ZR19 Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires, Recaro front seats and various black details.

Depending on the market, the Levorg is offered with a turbocharged 1.8-liter engine producing 174 horsepower or a larger 2.4-liter 256 horsepower, also forced induction engine. These four-cylinder units are powered by a CVT that sends power to both axles.
