Cadillac's marketing boss said the starting price is for a "blank canvas" before buyers add their personal skins.

Ever since Cadillac introduced the Celestiq ultra-luxury electric sedan in October 2022, we've known this would be the most expensive EV built on GM's Ultium platform.

At the time, Cadillac said the Celestiq would cost more than $300,000, and now we know exactly how much that is at $300,000: It seems like a lot. Cadillac executives said this week that the Celestiq will start as a "blank canvas", priced at around $340,000 before buyers add their personal finishes.

Cadillac global marketing manager Melissa Grady Dias revealed the starting price in a LinkedIn post and noted that shipping is not included. A Cadillac spokesperson told Automotive News that the destination fare will be announced later.

“Since its introduction, Celestiq has been in extremely high demand. Customers who embark on this bespoke journey can personalize their Celestiq and make it a true reflection of their personality – the possibilities are endless. Celestiq's bespoke spirit will be determined by Celestiq's level of improvement. but the blank canvas will start at around $340,000 MSRP."

He added that starting this week, the luxury brand will inform buyers that they can begin the process of designing their vehicles. No two Cadillac Celestiq sedans are expected to look alike once buyers customize it to their personal tastes. Customers will choose a dealership before they finish designing their vehicle.

Cadillac will handcraft the Celestiq at GM's Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan, and this will be the first time a production vehicle has been built there. The Cadillac Celestiq will launch for the 2024 model year, but the automaker has not said when deliveries will begin. However, Tony Roma had previously said that production will begin in December 2023.

The company is in the process of converting a building on its tech center campus into the Cadillac House in Vanderbilt, named after designer Suzanne Vanderbilt, who worked for Cadillac after she joined GM Design in 1955.

The building will host a concierge service for Celestiq customers from around the world to design their vehicles. A Cadillac spokesperson said the facility is nearly complete and will open this summer.
