The launch of the extensively redesigned BMW X2 led to the launch of the iX2, the brand's first all-electric model. It is scheduled to debut in March 2024 as a single-trim version, the iX2 xDrive30, and will be produced alongside the combustion-engine-powered X2 at BMW's plant in Regensburg, Germany.

Visually, the new X2 is quite different from the previous model, but the styling differences between the X2 and iX2 are quite minor. Its front and rear fascias look very similar to the combustion models, but they clearly have fake kidney grilles and no exhaust pipes. But it is beneath the surface that the most significant changes are made.

The iX2 will initially be available only in xDrive30 guise. This model combines an electric motor on the front axle with an electric motor on the rear axle to deliver a total of 309 hp (230kW / 313 PS) and 364 lb-ft (494 Nm) of torque. Powering these motors is a 64.8 kWh battery pack, and while it's not a performance-oriented SUV, the iX2 xDrive30 can still hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in an impressive 5.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 112 mph (180 km). /H). It has a WLTP range of 417 km to 449 km (259 – 279 miles).

The iX2 xDrive30 offers special 17-inch light-alloy wheels as standard and includes a regenerative braking system. It is further differentiated from combustion models by the presence of reinforced cross members for the front and rear bumpers, designed to help protect the battery in the event of a crash.

BMW has equipped the iX2 xDrive30 with the Combined Charging Unit, which provides AC charging at a rate of 11 kW as standard and allows charging from 0 to 100% in 6.5 hours. When connected to a 22 kW AC charger, this time drops to 3 hours 45 minutes. The iX2 also supports a 130 kW DC charger, which further reduces charging time, allowing the battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in 29 minutes. The compact model also features a thermal management system to cool or warm the battery before the driver stops at the fast charging station.

Customers who order the iX2 will have the option to purchase the Connected Home Charging package, which aims to reduce energy costs and minimize the SUV's carbon footprint. This package includes load-optimized charging, which adjusts the charging rate according to the available power in the home. It also smartly uses the energy produced by the solar panels in the house. The entire system can be easily controlled via the My BMW App.

BMW says the global warming potential over the life cycle of the iX2 xDrive30 is approximately 30% lower than the European-market X2 sDrive20i, and approximately 60% lower if charged using only renewable energy.
