Description

I crouched down on the street
Resisting the freezing weather
Trying to warm my numb, bare feet
With all my might, I tolerated.

There I rested
In the cold
In the dark
Waiting for the arrival of the dazzling sun.

A figure appeared at the end of the road
Panting, limping
And struggling to breathe.
Then he collapsed.

I instantly rushed to his side
Lifted him up
Took him to shelter
What I thought only was to save him.

Blood trickled down his face
Freezing into icicles
All his body was covered in wounds
Filthy, exhausted and sympathized.

I used an old towel to clean his face
As his true face was revealed
I identified him at once.
I knew him, for sure.

Memory flitted through my mind.
He was the one who gave me bread.
He was the one who saved me from the dogs.
He was the one who enlightened me.

I do remember you.
You are so important to me.
What could I do to help you?
How could I ever forget you?

“Dear girl… There’s no need to be sad.
I am going to where I should be.
Remember to live happily.
Lead a fruitful life, in memory of me.”

There the man lay
In the cold
In the dark
Waiting for the arrival of… death.
