Muslims mark Eid in the Middle East

Muslims around the world heed the call to prayer on the religious eid festival.
Eid Al-Adha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son for god.
Protesters in Yemen are focused on the political freedom many have sacrificed their lives for.
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) ACTIVIST, WALEED AL AMARI, SAYING:
"All of us are involved in the revolution, we will not go back. We are here today on the day of the Eid -- we want to be with our families, but Yemen is our great mother and we live and start with Yemen during this Eid. So, we will build the new Yemen, God willing"
The Egyptian holiday also bears the signs of the country's revolution - at the same time taking on a festive air Sunday with balloons and party hats.
For West Bank leaders including President Mahmoud Abbas, the holiday is marred by tension with Israel over settlements and the Palestinian bid for statehood.
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) PALESTINIAN PRESIDENT MAHMOUD ABBAS SAYING:
"Israel's escalation will not stop at all, they have been using all kinds of means since a long time ago, and lately there has been an increase in settlement building, especially in Jerusalem and other places in the West Bank."
Muslims who can afford it are also expected to make the pilgrimage to Mecca ahead of the Eid feast at least once in their lives.
