The ensemble was founded in 1961, under the guidance of Maestro Moussa Marico, flautist and professor of music at the Institute National des Art (INA). Talents from the wide range of Malian cultures where recruited and the ensemnle soon became a prestigious ambassador for the Malian culture. The early line-up consisted of musical virtuosos like legends Sidiki Diabate, Djelimadi, Tata Bambo Kouyate, Hawa Drame, Amy Koita, Kandia Kouyate and many more.
The performances of Ensemble Instrumental national du Mali have been showcased at various National and International events.
A 'Waka Waka' performance in Delhi by dance troupes from Seychelles, Zambia, Sudan, Ghana and Senegal at the African Festival in New Delhi. This happened on the 18th and the 19th of June 2012. African dances are well known for celebrating a zest for life and a close bond with nature. The event was held at the Kamani Auditorium Delhi.
