Munich knife attack: suspect detained

A man injured several people with a knife in the German city of Munich on Saturday.

The suspect is believed to have injured eight people.

None of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries.

Police have detained a suspect but haven’t confirmed that he was the one responsible for the attack.

“We have arrested a person who very strongly resembles the description by witnesses, but we cannot confirm that he is the attacker,“ a spokesman said.

The head of police force has said there are no indications that the suspect had religious our political motives to carry out the attack. Police has stated they suspect the man detained has mental health problems and was known to police from previous offences, including burglary.

“We have no indication of a terrorist, political, or religious motive,“ Munich police chief Hubertus Andrae said. “I assume it is to do with a psychological disorder of the perpetrator.”

The attack happened at Rosenheimer Platz underground station.

Police urged people in the city to remain at home and described the suspect as a blond man in his 40s, wearing grey trousers and a green jacket, who had fled the scene on a black bicycle.
