He, who cannot be,
But candid
With the nature of things and 'I'

He, who can live,
But gives in not
To the lie

Lives most indifferent,
Dismaying Misery,
Though unyielding
It charges,
And untiring, it comes by

The beguiled man, pleased with 'I'
Most foolish does smile,
And back reflects Reality,
As with all that is crude,
With a smile so sly

And false import
Knots the blindfold,
In intrigue with Time,
And leads Man to the gallows
Yet undiscerning the crime

The charge was to strive
And the verdict,
The futility of the try

This, or else, be brave,
And with the truth do reconcile,
That ‘tis all in vain for 'I'
And 'I' being but dust
Is fleeting past by…
