Mouse Mountain Dew Experiment

If you are eating, or if you're within an hour or two of eating, stop right now. Stop. Leave the tab open, and come back later to watch a tiny mammal dissolved into a mushy goo.

Okay, well, I warned you.

The back story is this: Ronald Ball innocently popped open a can of Mountain Dew, ready for some sugary refreshment, when he noticed something sloshing around in the can. On closer inspection, Ball claims to have found the carcass of a mouse in the liquid. Gross.

Mountain Dew’s owners, PepsiCo, response was to bring in ‘experts’ which stated that this wasn’t possible. It wasn’t that this could have happened because of their stringent safety and packaging processes, but that their drink was so corrosive, the mouse would have been completely dissolved in the liquid after just 30 days, therefore Ball couldn’t have found a carcass 15 months after the can was made. Instead, he would have found a jelly-like mush.

Sugary drinks are bad for us. They rot teeth, contribute towards obesity and are a contributing factor in diseases such as type 2 diabetes.

But could this lime-green citrus soda really dissolve tissue and bone after only 30 days?
