Mourning in Sydney as Australians try to come to terms in the aftermath of a deadly siege in which three were killed. The attacker was among the fatalities.

Overnight Australian police stormed a Sydney cafe freeing hostages held at gunpoint, in a dramatic end to a 16-hour siege.

"It's absolutely devastating that it could happen and that just anyone going about their business, going to get a coffee in the morning and to have something so tragic and horrible happen to them and their families and extended families, it's just horrific."
