if you came to my door
maybe I'd let you in.
maybe we'd sit with cranberry juice staining our lips
and discuss exotic birds
rich and enormous
or what would we do if
we had eight hundred purple balloons?
but maybe I wouldn't let you in
and maybe you'd stay at my door until it caved
and maybe you'd leave
and leave me
with my nose between the blinds
wishing and wishing
you had opened the door yourself
