Endless hours upon hour.

Regardless of the time of day
You call to get your question asked
Nobody's where they're supposed to be.
Epidemic ADD?
Everybody multi-tasked?
Due to the economy?

Is it from an eagerness
To profit more and labor less
Hidden in Democracy?
Nobody's where they're supposed to be
That we must negotiate
A thirty-hour coffee break?

Then we're told, if we prefer
Leave a number at the tone
And a reason for the phone.
We shall hear from them, for sure
(If we're where we're supposed to be)
In a day or maybe three.

No matter what the time of day
You call to get your business done
April's finis, early May
Mid-night, morning, even, noon
Forget the way it used to be
Nobody's where they're supposed to be.
