More recall problems for General Motors
1,355 Views • May 21, 2014
Description
Drivers of nearly 2.5 million vehicles worldwide will have to take them in to fix problems with safety belts, transmissions, air bags, retention clips and to address potential fire issues in various models.
The number of vehicles GM has recalled so far this year is nearly 15.5 million – more than the previous five years combined.
That includes moves to replace defective ignition switches which have been linked to at least 13 deaths in accidents.
GM has been criticised by safety advocates and fined by US safety regulators for concealing the switch problem for more than a decade.
GM said there have been no fatalities associated with the latest recalls.
They affect the Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook full-size crossover vehicles; older-generation Chevy Malibu and Pontiac G6 mid-sized sedans; and newer versions of the Cadillac Escalade SUV and heavy-duty Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickup trucks.
Most of the vehicles were sold in the United States.
