The nation's incumbent president Tsakhia Elbegdorj bowed to a giant statue of Genghis Khan before addressing supporters celebrating his re-election.
The 50-year-old leader of the Mongolian Democratic Party won just over 50% of the votes to clinch victory on Thursday.
Elbegdorj thanked the citizens of Mongolia, who he said were like his family, and also thanked late warrior Khan.
The Mongolian president was the overwhelming favourite in the contest, played out amid worries about the nation's faltering economy.
