Modi Steps Closer to New Delhi

Reading the tea leaves on India's prime ministerial candidates? There are a few more clues pointing to a Rahul Gandhi -- Narendra Modi showdown.

Neither the ruling Congress party nor the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party have explicitly backed a candidate for the top job. And Mr. Modi and Mr. Gandhi have so far dodged direct questions on their political ambitions. But as India's election looms on the horizon (it has to happen by May 2014), evidence suggests the two men are positioning themselves as rivals.
