MIT scientists create X-ray vision using Wi-Fi
3 Views • May 14, 2015
Description
The technology, christened Wi-Vi, uses a low-power Wi-fi signal and its reflections to track movement.
The secret behind Wi-Vi is that it uses two transmitters and a single receiver. The second transmitter's signal is the inverse of the first. Any identical reflections, such as those from static objects, therefore cancel each other out leaving only moving signals.
The signals can show when a subject in another room is moving away from and towards the receiver.
Wi-Vi's inventors believe the technology could one day be used for a range of applications including search and rescue operations in disaster areas and by police to identify the number of suspects and their locations in a building before a raid.
