Il corridore belga anticipa la volata del gruppo dei migliori con un allungo nel finale dopo il Poggio e si impone in via Roma. Caleb Ewan e Wout van Aert completano il podio della Classicissima
Sanremo, 20 marzo 2021 – La 112a edizione della Milano-Sanremo presented by Eolo si preannunciava quanto mai aperta con tanti campioni in grado di vincerla e il finale non ha deluso le attese.
L'azione decisiva quando mancavano 2.5 chilometri al traguardo di via Roma. Jasper Stuyven ha attaccato fuoriuscendo dal primo gruppo. È stato poi raggiunto poco dopo da Soren Kragh Andersen, mentre gli altri favoriti della vigilia sono rimasti a guardarsi un attimo di troppo, anche a causa della presenza del velocista Caleb Ewan, che aveva tenuto le ruote dei migliori sul Poggio nonostante un attacco in salita del campione del mondo Julian Alaphilippe.
L'affondo di Stuyven si è rivelato decisivo, con il belga che ha rilanciato negli ultimi 300 metri resistendo al ritorno di Caleb Ewan, secondo davanti al vincitore dell'anno scorso Wout van Aert,
quarto Peter Sagan e quinto Mathieu van der Poel, mentre Kragh Andersen è stato riassorbito dal gruppo è ha chiuso al nono posto.

Sanremo, 20 March 2021 - With two kilometers to go, Jasper Stuyven made the winning move. He was joined for a while by Soren Kragh Andersen, as the hot favorites watched each other in the presence of ace sprinter Caleb Ewan, who had managed to follow them up the Poggio. The much anticipated attack up the climb by World Champion Julian Alaphilippe wasn't decisive this time around. Claeb Ewan and Wout van Aert rounded out the podium, with Peter Sagan and Mathieu van der Poel in fourth and fifth place respectively.

Beforehand, eight riders animated the race with a breakaway launched at kilometer 3, comprised of Filippo Tagliani, Mattia Viel (Androni Giocattoli - Sidermec), Andrea Peron, Charles Planet (Team Novo Nordisk), Mathias Norsgaard Jørgensen (Movistar Team), Nicola Conci (Trek - Segafredo), Alessandro Tonelli (Bardiani CSF Faizane') and Taco Van Der Hoorn (Intermarché - Wanty - Gobert Matériaux), the last rider to be absorbed by the peloton on the Cipressa climb, 24km before the finish.
