Midnight Clarity - Evening drive
1 Views • Jun 14, 2014
Description
on the sea, all dark, all green,
a tinted threat above the land,
a doorway into stormy times
that I must pass through
going back to Kansas.
The weather boils with
promise of the storm
as light is bent, is shaded
tints of verdigris, of mustard
without flavour
only drab and uninviting
scraps of light
that herald thunder,
rain and early dark
as clouds close in,
as coils of water
squirm and ooze
in layered sheets
across the windshield
leaving me all rainblind,
crawling on the pavement
where I want so much to hurry,
aquaplane my wheels to home
to comfort, to the scent of chicken
roasting, gravy just a gentle simmer
on the stovetop breathing spice
into the air as salad gleams its jewel colours,
emerald and ruby, onyx olives shining
in their oil, an order woman-made
to counteract the chaos of the storm.
