Microsoft Invests in AI Startup
Description
Microsoft ($MSFT@US) reportedly invested billions of dollars over multiple years in the startup CoreWeave to meet the increasing demand for AI-powered services. CoreWeave provides simplified access to Nvidia's GPUs, considered the best for running AI models. Microsoft's deal with CoreWeave aims to ensure that OpenAI, the company behind the ChatGPT chatbot, has sufficient computing power. OpenAI relies on Microsoft's Azure cloud infrastructure for its computational needs. With the rising demand for AI infrastructure, Microsoft is seeking additional ways to tap into Nvidia's GPUs. CoreWeave's funding comes from various sources, including hedge fund Magnetar Capital and Nvidia. The company offers cost-effective computing power compared to legacy cloud providers. Microsoft has also had discussions with Oracle about renting servers from each other for added capacity.
