I had a best friend once
and a wife
with beads and blue eyes
the shine on everything
up and down we went
our eyes meeting equally
from time to time

until I saw something
in the dim edge of the horizon
a flower once thought bright enough to blaze
in the spectrum’s dimmest edge
but was instead
nothing but delusion
a dimmer star

I had to leave
I had to chase
I had to see

and so I got off
the bottom of the seesaw
