Mexico: Web users mock Pena Nieto's security reforms

MEXICO: WEB USERS MOCK PENA NIETO’S SECURITY REFORMS
Often criticized for not doing enough to tackle the rampant violence and corruption in Mexico, the president Enrique Pena Nieto announced a series of ten security reforms last week to be implemented in the very near future aimed at combating organized crime across the country. The proposed measures are diverse and varied and include disbanding municipal police forces and putting them under the jurisdiction of regional police departments, as well as setting up a national emergency hotline. The measures have been met with a frosty reception from a lot of Mexican web users.
Although some have welcomed Enrique Pena Nieto`s proposed reforms, many maintain they will do nothing to change the current situation in Mexico. Web users have openly slammed the measures they feel are the most futile. The national 911 system for example they say is pointless, and have been posting photomontages to back up their comments, claiming the police are the ones doing the shooting and kidnapping and that they no longer trust the authorities to end this cycle of violence, that has been ongoing for months and months.
This mistrust and defiance towards the public authorities may well prompt the head of state to step down. This is what Enrique Pena Nieto`s critics are hoping, and have been campaigning under the #911EPNRenuncia hashtag, calling for his immediate resignation.
