Country and western star, Merle Haggard was one of the leading country artists to have come out of the '60s. He had a big influence on many other artists and in 1994, was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Merle Haggard recorded the song on his 1968 album 'Mama Tried.'

'Folsom Prison Blues' was a number one hit for Johnny Cash on the US Hot Country Singles chart in 1968.
