meredith bullock - clam chowder

once i dwelled on the bottom,
on the grainy, watery sand,
as i sat in the firm security of my shell.

all you could see were my dark eyes,
peering into yours,
as i sat hidden in the kelp.

today you might see me still,
alone on the seafood aisle,
as i sit next to a recipe for clam chowder.
