Mehreen Tahir - Caged!

Sometimes I feel angry,
for I am the tormentor,
the beast that oppresses,
and puts in cages,
the birds of my thoughts,
I keep them closed,
shut away,
where no one can know.
Sometimes I get upset,
for not being able to express,
to speak up,
as I shy away,
and even the littlest things,
are left unsaid.
One day maybe,
I’ll say it all,
open up my heart,
find the keys of the cages,
and free the birds of my thoughts.
