Mega Retailers Commit To Zero-carbon Shipping
Description
Amazon ($AMZN@US) and IKEA are among companies that have committed to using zero-carbon shipping fuels by 2040. This initiative hopes to “decarbonize” the maritime industry, which is often left out of the social conversation on climate change. Demand for retail goods has skyrocketed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to greater emissions across the cargo and freight industry. Additionally, the United Nations plans to reduce maritime emissions by 50% through 2050. Amazon stock rose over 1% in early trading as the news broke.
