Mediterranean Small Islands - Report and perspectives

There are almost 15.000 islands and islets in the Mediterranean Sea, of which more than 1.100 are located only in its western basin. These small insular territories shelter an amazing biodiversity.
The Mediterranean Small Islands Initiative (PIM Initiative) is an international program for promoting and assisting the management of small Mediterranean islands, coordinated by the French Coastal Protection Agency (Conservatoire du littoral). Since 2006, it aims at setting up an efficient and practical management of these territories by enhancing the exchange and the sharing of knowledge and know-how in order to preserve this ecological and cultural world heritage.
