Media coverage on orang asli 'problematic'

Public perception of the orang asli (indigenous people) tends to be negative due to problematic media coverage of their issues, Center for Orang Asli Concerns coordinator Colin Nicholas said today.

At a talk titled 'Covering the Native' at the Jaringan Orang SeMalaysia office in Petaling Jaya, Center for Orang Asli Concerns coordinator Colin Nicholas explained how public perception of the orang asli tends to be negative due to coverage by the media that shows them in a negative light.

He said that the orang asli are portrayed as primitive and refusing to change so that they are seen as unworthy.
