Description

Counting the votes in Mongolia's parliamentary elections, after polls closed on Thursday.

But allegations of vote rigging and concerns over the country's new electronic voting system had sown doubt and confusion over the results.

Election chiefs on Saturday however ruled out a full recount.

Instead, they announced that the pro-free market Mongolian Democratic Party had won more than a fifth of the vote according to a preliminary count - which would give them 31 seats in the 76-seat parliament.

But rivals, the Mongolian People's Party, a close second with a likely 29 seats, decried the results.

This People's Party representative says the partial recount carried out over the last two days was poorly organised and unfair.

The two parties led a coalition government from 2008 which broke down in January.

The official results of the election must be released within 14 days.
