MB: 'Zero squatters' policy to continue

Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said yesterday that his government will stay the course embarked by his predecessor Dr Mohd Khir Toyo to eradicate all 'squatter' settlements in the state.

Mohd Khir's 'zero squatters' policy - and the demolition of sometimes decades-old settlements that accompanied it - had caused outrage among many sectors of the civil society and political activists.

Therefore, it must come as a surprise to these quarters that the decision to continue with the stand comes from Khalid, whose party PKR was at the forefront of efforts to uphold the rights of, among others, the Kampung Berembang settlement off Jalan Ampang.
