Maxime Sullivan I can't get started
Description
I Can't get Started Sullivan Maxine 1958
Maxine Sullivan sings in a 1958 Art Ford party backed up by pianist Roland Hanna. Trombonist Tyree Glenn and trumpetplayer Johnny Windhurst are in the background as well.
Maxine ( 1911- 1987) was married to bassplayer John Kirby
It was this first session with Kirby that proved to be both a blessing and a curse for Maxine Sullivan. It produced a hit record, a swing version of a Scottish folk song called Loch Lomond. Unfortunately it "typed" her and she depended on similar folk style performances for many subsequent records, despite her ability to adapt to other forms of Pop and jazz songs equally well. Her cool, soft, tone and subtle and intimate style was equally swinging on records like Nice Work If You Can Get It, Blue Skies, St Louis Blues, and Stop Your Breaking My Heart.
After a number of years away from singing and working in the nursing profession, She came back to her singing career in the sixties.
Peronally I find her recordings done in the seventies and eighties done in Sweden most representitive. A number of CD's were done on the Kenneth Label produced by Gosta Hagglof.
