Max Reif - Limits

In my 30's I wrote a book of poems
all about infinite possibility.
A friend's dad, a doctor,
read them and said:

'You feel now
like you have boundless energy,
you think you can do anything,
but all that will change someday.'
I thought, how sad&#151
the man is so defeated.

Today I came home
from 8 hours of work
and I just don't have
the zest to read or write.

I can't do everything,
I'm realizing.
Infinite possibility
and finite energy
=(sigh)
limits.

To do the infinite
will take a little longer
than I'd thought.
