Maureen Pickford - Bubbles

Little daughter standing there
Chubby cheeks and sunlit hair
Dripping wand, she's holding tight
Blowing hard, with all her might

Clouds of bubbles float off high
Coloured spheres, upto the sky
Happy squeals greet this fine sight
Sturdy legs dance with delight

Back to earth, the bubbles fall
Lazy cat puts out a paw
Hopes to snag a treasured prize;
Bubble bursts before his eyes!

Now dispersing everywhere,
One rests on a leaf; right there.
They swirl round her summer dress
Popping into nothingness

Long ago, this sunny day
When I sat and watched her play
Now she's grown, and flown, the nest
Love and guidance, our bequest

April came and saw a bride
Pride shone out of daddy's eyes
I remembered my small child
And her bubbles in the sky
