Maui Victims Seek Utility Docs
Description
Lawyers representing victims of the recent wildfire in Maui have subpoenaed a former consultant for Hawaiian Electric, seeking access to his correspondence with top utility officials regarding their knowledge of wildfire risks and necessary upgrades to the power grid. The lawyers also requested documents related to wildfire mitigation plans and any decisions to defer necessary expenditures. Hawaiian Electric denies responsibility for the wildfire and criticizes Maui County's lawsuit as premature. At the same time, Maui County's lawyer calls on the utility company to provide evidence of a second ignition source.
