Matthew Thomas Donovan - Desert Music

I bled my venomous blood,
and saw a desert stretch out before me,
far and wide.
I chose to walk,
and God help me,
I walked until all the sand had left the earth,
and every grain had returned to the ocean.

Knowledge is found,
wisdom is earned.
And for every mile I walked,
I witnessed an equally distant mile behind me
whenever I turned to feel the cutting winds
upon my cheek.

Scorpions, cacti, salt.
I carry every note of the desert on my sleeve.
It is as much a part of me as I am of it.
