the truth of their being together
or apart is less than the space between
the letters of any word: a part of each/other
they are, in these of years of anger and love;
reclining skins streaming the nightsweats
of uncomfortable sleep-and no respite
not even for the unspoken dream of dreams
they dream.

These two:

a pairing of question marks,
thinner and spooned shivering
in the half-mouthed alphabet
of their own dark house

waiting to be married soon.
