Massive fires tears through Siberian forest
1 Views • Aug 03, 2020
Description
Russia's Siberian region, one of the coldest areas in the world, has been suffering from large forest fires amid heatwaves caused by global warming.
According to Greenpeace Russia, more than 19 million hectares of forests, steppes and fields have burned across Siberia since January.
This comes amid the Arctic reporting unusually high temperatures this year.
Temperatures in the Russian town of Verkhoyansk, located in the northern part of the Arctic, recorded 38 degrees Celsius on June 20th.
