I am here with you
Leaning on the window;
My body pressing hard
Against the night—the stars
Are far, a special miracle
To heal my time from you.

I am here, I will stay
And bare you tears and cry
With you. I want to laugh
At this effacement of fate
And obsessions tied
Into a string of sobs and prison…
But I’ll cry to keep you company.

Dare I say this, and I am no longer
A friend—but a traitor to lover’s loss
And you will curse me with
Your loud demand of tears—
And hurl your wet handkerchief at me,
Your raccoon eyes spill expressions
That can make even the devil look up.
Yes, tonight, I am your escort to watery rage
And mirror you lines of duress
And move your hair from your tears
With a sigh, heavy as your burden.

My back- on all that is relief,
On all that glitters like an airy landscape
Of silver peace.
Tonight I am here.
