Description

Hearts

I heard they make some hearts of glass
And those can’t hide a lie
So easily they win you trust
Yet breaks they can’t survive

And then they make some hearts of stone
And those can not be moved
By pain of loss, by screams or moans
Nor broke’ by love or truth

Some rare hearts are made of gold
Their qualities devine
Sought out by greedy and the bold
To steal or keep for prize

And some are made of butter
They melt when heat is felt
And some are dark and cold
For they are made of lead

But mine, I think, is rubber
For it can not be still
It bounces from one to other
Too proud of its free will

The cold of rejection
Like granite it withstands
But filled to brink with love
Like rubber it expands
